About Xin-Ran:

I earned my PhD degree from indiana State University in 2003. Prior to this, I completed my Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of oklahoma in 1992, and graduated with Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering form Xi’an Jiaotong University, a top leading university in China. In addition, I was enrolled for PhD program in Engineering at the University of Akron with 38 credits until I accepted a full-time faculty position in Indiana in 1993.

With my 30 years’ experience in higher education, I have been very much involved in teaching and learning, research, academic program administration and advancement. My teaching career covers public state college and university, technical and community college, private university, and international university. Also, I have business and industrial experience as an engineer for years.

I have tutoring experience for university students and k12 students. I was a tutor for Minority Engineering Program at the University of Akron, Akron, ohio. Also, I was tutoring students at Drexel University, Philadelphia and Ivy Tech State College, Indiana. In addition, I have been a full professor in the state for about a decade. My teaching areas included mathematics, physics, engineering, technology, and language. I taught English for Chinese college students and taught Chinese for students and kids in Indiana. Also, I have experience teaching minority and international students with a diverse student population. As an educator, I always enjoy teaching, working with students; and I am committed to student success. And I have Chinese and Russian language skills, as well!

My educational philosophy is to educate students, understand students and support students. My principles are: I am always available for students, patient with students, and helpful to students. Student's success is my top priority. My tutoring methods will focus on combination theory and practice, providing more examples and possible application. I will know the student well and deliver the effective tutoring to the student(s), based on student background.

Due to my service I received an Innovation Award, a President’s Award for Excellence in Instruction, and an Award for Excellence at Highest Standards from the Board of Trustees, and other honors and awards.
